The famous painting of Christ's Second Coming that hangs in many LDS Church buildings was originally painted by a non-LDS painter named Harry Anderson. Anderson, a devout Seventh-day Adventist, painted at least two dozen paintings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the mid-1960s.
Anderson's original painting of the Second Coming had several angels with wings and Christ had a short haircut. The LDS Church asked Grant Romney Clawson (an LDS artist) to paint over the angels' wings and lengthen the Lord's hair. According to Clawson, Anderson had given the Lord a "Dutch Boy cut", so he added about four inches to his hair.
Since Anderson was not in Utah and Clawson had been commissioned from the Church to paint several murals and was around, he was asked to make the corrections. As far as Clawson knows, Anderson was not insulted that the changes were made and painted additional paintings for the Church.
