The original version of Battlestar Galactica (not the super cool update) was created by Glen A. Larson, a Mormon. There are several terms and doctrines that are found on the show that are similar to Mormon beliefs. For example, the planet they came from is known as Kobol (which is similar to Kolob). There are twelve colonies and the governing body is known as the Quorum of the Twelve. There were several episodes that also focused on Mormon doctrine such as free agency, the origin of God, eternal progression, etc.
